Our first destination is Thailand’s 3rd largest National Park at Khao Yai a journey of some 190 km through beautiful countryside to the park entrance.
A great excursion around this long-standing nature preserve, we get to view its stunning waterfalls the highlight of which is the 150m-tall Haew Narok. The park is home to a variety and diversity of wildlife, don’t be surprised to see elephants, bears, gibbons, hornbills and many other indiginous wildlife.

Day 2: Khao Yai to Phetchabun

From Khao Yai you head north and after riding for approximately 250 KM you reach your next destination Phetchabun.
Phetchabun nestles in the Pa Sak River valley which sits between the two ranges of the Phetchabun Mountains and incorporates Si Thep Historical Park which contains the ruins of an ancient Khmer Empire city that showcases some magnificent sculptures.

Si Thep Historical Park contains the ruins of ancient Phetchabun, encompassing Si Thep Ancient Town, originally called MueangAphaiSali. It is believed to have been built during the boom years of the ancient Khmer empire, no less than 1,000 years old. The historic town is surrounded by a moat and a mound; inside, ponds and swamps dot the compound.attractions include the Information Centers (there are two: old and new), which have displays of ancient remains and rotating exhibits on the history and archaeology of the Si Thep Historical Park. Prang Song Phi Nong spire, one of several Khmer-style spires on site, is also noteworthy, built during the 11th or 12th century in the Baphuon style of Khmer art during the Angkor Wat period. KhaoKlangNai Ancient Monument, lying in the center of town, was constructed even earlier, between the 6th or 7th century.

Chao Pho Khao Yai Shrine is a Chinese-style Buddhist temple built into the side of the cliff at the northern end of Ko Sichang Harbour.
It was built by 18th century Chinese traders to protect them while at sea and to ensure a safe passage home.
The shrine dominates the northern skyline of Ko Sichang Harbour, and sticks out as a prominent red building halfway up the mountain at the northern end of the harbor.
The shrine itself is accessed by a steep flight of stairs, although there is now a cable car for those less fit (with appropriate donation box on arrival). We walked up.
The décor is typically Chinese. Very colourful and apart from Buddha, the shrine includes the whole pantheon of Chinese gods.
As it is built into the side of the cliff, there are many small grotto-like shrines, each dedicated to a particular deity. But watch your head, as the entrances to some are very low and you can do yourself a nasty injury on the low-hanging rocks.

Suphanburi, also known as "Suphan", is an ancient town rich in natural and historical heritage. The province was once an important border town involving battles and important wars during the period of the Ayutthaya kingdom. So, today, travelling around the province is like drifting through historical novels. Historical evidence leads you to travel to the past such as Don Chedi Monument, Wat Khao Khuen whose abbot played a significant role in Thai history
Artefacts and archaeological evidence shows that Suphanburi is history dates back to 3,500-3,800 years ago. Archaeologists found artefacts from the New Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age. And since then, culture had been inherited in the area.
Stop At: Wat Pha Sorn Kaew, Nai Mueang, Phetchabun 67280 Thailand
Sitting atop a hill against a backdrop of stunning mountain ranges is the Wat Pha Sorn Kaew Temple. This is one of Thailand’s best-kept secrets, a beautiful work of art. As you approach this attraction, five figures can be discerned from a distance. These are five statues of the Buddha, each of a different size. A sight to behold, these statues look majestic amongst the mountains. Wat Pha Sorn Kaew Temple is arguably Thailand’s most attractive temple.
A feature that gives it its verve is a colorful mosaic wall that bears a tapestry of tiles and ornaments. The temple is surrounded by nature and is set in a very tranquil location earning it the reputation of being a center for meditation. There currently isn’t public transport to the site as the temple doesn’t receive many visitors. However, using private transportation, Wat Pha Sorn Kaew is easily accessible. Entrance is also free for all but there’s no harm in leaving a donation to help maintain this gorgeous place.

Day 3: Phetchabun to Khao Kho to Phu Tub Berk

We will be soaring amongst the clouds today. Post breakfast we make the short 97km journey to Phu Tub Berk which is the tallest mountain in the province standing at almost 1,800 metres. Some great curves and loops and changes in elevation as we ascend. During our climb you will start to feel the cooler air as the ambient temperture drop.
This mountain is a renowned agricultural centre for cabbages and other vegetables and fruits, boasting Thailand’s largest cabbage patch.
More twists and curves, as we head to our overnight stop at Khao Kho, which is commonly known as Thailand’s Magical city above the clouds.

Chilly temperatures throughout the year and unbeatable scenic views have made KhaoKho one of the most famous tourist attractions in Phetchabun province. The KhaoKhomountains comprise a variety of small and large mountains in the Phetchabun range, located in AmphoeKhaoKho. Mountain Serdang trees, or “Ton Kho” in Thai, pepper the mountains, lending the mountains its name. A range of forests can be found here, including deciduous, pine and evergreen forests. The noteworthy Palmae plant, similar to the Asian Palmyra, can sometimes also be spotted here, bearing fruits in bunches like betel nuts.

Due to the location of the wind farm project on a hill at an altitude of about 1,050 meters above sea level, standing majestically on the 350-rai hilltop plain, and offers sweeping views.

Day 4: Khao Kho to Mae Sot Burmese Border

Drive to the hot pot of culture, Mae Sot is among the most culturally diverse cities in Thailand. Walking down the town's streets you’ll see a fascinating ethnic mixture of Burmese men in their longyi (sarongs), Hmong and Karen women in traditional hill-tribe dress, bearded Muslims, Thai army rangers and foreign NGO workers. Burmese and Karen are spoken as much as Thai, shop signs along the streets are in Thai, Burmese and Chinese, and much of the temple architecture is Burmese. Mae Sot has also become the most important jade and gem centre along the border, with much of the trade controlled by Chinese and Muslim immigrants from Myanmar.

Day 5: Mae Sot to Mae Sariang

The small district town of Mae Sariang sits in a picturesque location on a largely undeveloped riverside, surrounded by forested hills and paddy-filled valleys. The town still possesses plenty of old teak buildings, a handful of Burmese/Shan-style wats, some fine accommodation choices and... well, it’s just a great glimpse of traditional, small-town Thailand.

Beautiful Mae Sam Laep sits on the eastern bank of the Salween River and aside from great views across to Burma, you’ll also find a bustling market town with boats going back and forth across the river carrying all sorts of goods. There used to be a lot of these atmospheric, remote, end-of-the-road style places in Thailand but these days there are fewer and fewer, so if you have the time up your sleeve it is worth setting aside an extra day, not just for Mae Sariang, but also for a day trip to Mae Sam Laep.

Day 6: Mae Sariang to Pai
Stop At: Salawin National Park, Ban Tha Ta Fang Mae Yuam, Mae Sariang Thailand
Salween (Salawin) National Park is located in the far west of Mae Sariang district, Mae Hong Son, and encompasses the well preserved forested hills along the slopes of the watershed between the Yuam and Salween Rivers. It’s a large national park of more than 720 square kilometres, and was created recently, incorporating parts of the already established Salween Wildlife Sanctuary and Lum Nam Khong National Park. It connects to the equally large Mae Yuam Wildlife Sanctuary to the north and is adjacent to the Nam Ngao National Park to the south, creating a vast area of forest and mountains.

This postcard-perfect little town set approximately midway between Mae Hong Son and Chiang Mai is a dream destination for many travellers. Tucked deep in a valley, surrounded by walls of endless mountains, Pai seems to exist in its own time zone. Here, nature is your best friend and, perhaps, chilling out while doing close to nothing is going to be your second best friend.
Pai has three happening main streets, with the scenic Pai River cutting through the eastern part of town. Bamboo rafting and white-river rafting, popular among adventurous souls, are two of the best ways to appreciate Pai’s picturesque landscape. If you prefer to stay on dry land, hiking or mountain trekking is another fascinating option, apart from browsing a collection of souvenir shops in the town centre. Exploring outer Pai, peppered with natural hot springs, waterfalls and ethnic hill-tribe villages, is also something to consider.

Post breakfast we set off to cover approx 260km to the ancient city of Chiang Mai, lots to see and lots of road to cover today on this fantastic route.
Chiang Mai is a land of misty mountains and colourful hill tribes, a playground for seasoned travellers, a paradise for shoppers and a delight for adventurers. On a trip to Chiang Mai, the curious traveller can expand their horizons with Thai massage and cooking courses. Others will be bowled over by the variety of handicrafts and antiques. The guest can explore Wat Phra Doi Suthep after reaching Chiang Mai. Day 8: Explore Chiang Mai

These umbrellas are made from sa paper which is produced from the bark of mulberry tree, and are adorned with some captivating traditional designs to enhance their visual appeal. Glimpsing History Through the Ruins of Wat Chedi Luang. The massive structure of the pagoda must have been one of the largest in the region when it was built but was diminished after it was destroyed by an earthquake. Wat Chedi Luang features numerous structures like the city pillar, statue of Buddha, and an old gum tree which will not only amuse you, but will make you curious.

The most revered Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai also widely admired by culture vultures, Wat Phra Singh is a must visit site in the city. This is one of the lesser known fact and attraction in Chaing Mai. This great wall forms a Moat around the Northern capital of Thailand. Since the begining of its foundation, Chiang Mai city layout was based on ancient military and astrological beliefs. King Mengrai wanted to protect his new city so, he ordered the construction of a perimeter wall and moat; laid in a rectangular shape of 1,800 meters by 2,000 meters.
Walking around Chiang Mai moat, one can discover the city gates and the ramparts built more than 700 years ago. Each gate had a distinct signification and use:
- Pratu Hua Vieng (now Chang Puak Gate) in the north.
- Pratu Tai Wiang (Chiang Mai Gate) is on the southeast wall,
- Pratu Thapae (Thapae Gate) is on the east
- Pratu Suan Dok (Suan Dok Gate) is on the west
- Pratu Suan Ra (Suan Pung Gate) in the southwest wall

Day 9: Chiang Mai to Nan

Orientate yourself with 180-degree views over Nan from the stunningly beautiful 29.5 foot Golden Buddha (also known as the Blessing Buddha) at Wat Phra That Khao Noi. For those that want a little exercise climb the 303 steps to the top, alternatively, there is also a road up to the breathtaking views.

The National Park is near to Thai-Laos border and is in fact a part of the Luang Prabang Range.
The National Park is also home to Doi Dong Ya Wai, the highest mountain peak in the province.
Forest in Doi Phu Kha National Park consists of 6 kinds: montane forest, dry evergreen forest, mixed forest, Dipterocarp forest, pine forest, and grassland, where rare and near-extinct floras can be found. Phu Kha mountain comprises high mountain ranges, considered to be a part of Himalayas. It's the highest Doi in Nan province with the height of 1,980 meters from sea level. Doi Phu Kha is also the source of many rivers suhh as Nan river, Pua river, and Wa river. It is presumed that the National Park area used to be sea, but then the earth crust clashed into one, evaporating the sea and creating a new land as of today.

Day 10: Nan to Loei to Chiang Khan

After breakfast, we set off for a great ride down through a real mixture of Thailand’s natural beauty. Hils, Mountains, curves and climbs, forests, and valleys are just some of the topographical features as we head into Loei

Loei is a sparsely populated, mountainous province in northeast Thailand, bordering Laos across the Mekong River. South of the laid-back capital, Loei, is the biodiverse Phu Kradueng National Park. Trails pass waterfalls and sandstone cliffs on their way up the huge plateau of Phu Kradueng mountain.

Of all the Mekong River towns in Thailand, Chiang Khan is probably the most appealing to visitors. Nestled right on the mighty river, the small town possesses low-key but enjoyable attractions such as the quaint wooden shophouses of its Walking Street and a riverside esplanade ideal for taking in the breeze and the wonderful views across the river to the mountains of Laos.

Day 11: Chiang Khan to khon kaen overnight

A fairly leisurely breakfast, then we set off to travel to Issan's largest city Khon Kaen, the ride distance is approx 300km. Khon Kaen is famous for its silk and you will find lots of night markets, shopping centres and boutiques shops as well as bars and clubs.

Khon Kaen is the commercial and political centre of Northeastern Thailand and is well known for the high-quality silk that is produced in the province. Located in the heart of Isan, Thailand’s northeast region, Khon Kaen has been one of the fastest-growing areas in Thailand.
A major source of local wisdom regarding the production of silk is in Amphoe Chonnabot, where excellent Mudmee Silk is delicately woven by hand using a special tie-dye technique, and Khon Kaen features both creature comfort, in the form of fine eateries and swanky hotels, and beautiful nature, including a variety of animal parks and a number of spectacular national parks.

Wat Nong Waeng (the 9-storeyed stupa) is a Temple that enshrines the Buddha’s relics and collects the Buddhist scriptures. Each of the door panels and windows on each floor is carved with pictures of the Jataka stories, the Buddha’s life, designated Buddha images for 7 days of the week, and 16 Realms of Brahmas. Wat Thung Setthi is an exquisite stupa representing a perfect combination of contemporary and Isan folk arts. The stupa was built according to a belief in the convergence of the three worlds: heaven, human world, and the underworld. It is believed that worshipping this particular pagoda equals to worshipping three sacred pagodas of the three worlds.

Day 12: Khon Kaen to Nakhon Sawan

After breakfast in your hotel, you check-out from the hotel and then head south 380km down to Nakhon Sawan.

nakhon Sawan province is a gateway between the central and northern regions of Thailand. With a low-lying landscape on the banks of the River. Places that tourists tend to think of first when visiting Nakhon Sawan is Bueng Boraphet which is a natural Lake of habitats for many species of birds.

Wat Woranat Banphot is an extremely interesting Thai temple to visit as it has a replica of what is supposedly Buddha’s footprint, and also has a small pagoda which holds one of the relics of Lord Buddha. The temple is on the top of a mountain just outside Nakhon Sawan and has beautiful gardens full of flowers, gorgeous temple courtyards to wander around and an amazing view of the city, mountains and jungle around Nakhon Sawan.

Day 13: Nakhon Sawan to Kabinburi

After breakfast, time to mount up for a full day’s ride down to Kabinburi, covering approx 310km. We head south on highway 32, passing through Uthai Thani, Singburi and Ang Thong, before joining the 33 towards Kabin Buri

Uthai Thani is a province abundant in natural resources, such as forests and wildlife. Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Reserve was proclaimed a natural UNESCO World Heritage Site on 13 December 1991. The reserve has jungles, forests, plains, many streams, and most importantly, number of rare and endangered animals.
Due to the verdant nature of the area, Uthai Thani is a province with relatively unspoiled natural tourist destinations. Visitors can see varying local lifestyles, such as the lives of raft residents on Sakae Krang River, a waterway that aided the birth of the province and which has been a lifeline for its people since ancient times. It is also where provincial trading has flourished. Life revolving around the river eventually grew from a community into the major province that it is today.
Pass By: Sing Buri, Sing Buri, Sing Buri Province
Sing Buri is one of important cities in the History of Thailand, with many Historical and religious attractions. It is well known for abundant River fish, particularly the Mae La catfish, and for the lively annual Boat races during which competitors from the province and beyond vie for the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Trophy. Attractions in the province are few, but are interesting, including a hero’s Monument, a museum, and Wat Phra Non Chaksi, a Temple that houses a 46-meter-long Buddha image.

Ang Thong is rich in local handicrafts including the royal doll sculpture, the making of a drum, the making of clay bricks and the production of wickerwork. It is also the birthplace of folk music. In some villages, there are flower plantations such as marigolds and sunflowers on a wide field and it is becoming new tourist spots.

Day 14: Kabinburi to Pattaya

Breakfast done and time to set off for the last leg of the tour back to Route 66 diner. But there is still plenty to see on the way, and we will pass through some beautiful countryside with a few hilly climbs and nice curves.
Then sadly, it’s time to say goodbye and take away the memories of a fantastic experience and adventure.
