Overview

It’s time to go back to the 1940s. Big Ben no longer sounds. Air raid sirens are the norm. German bombing raids come under cover of darkness. The population lives with rations and restrictions. Many Brits lay down their lives in Europe and beyond.

With your local expert guide, you will keep calm and carry on, learning about the British resolve and getting the inside scoop on the truth behind Westminster in wartime on this walking tour past important monuments like the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Cenotaph, Ministry of War, 10 Downing Street and Whitehall.

After your small group experience, bid your new-found friend and guide a fond farewell to descend into the War Rooms. At your own pace, discover the miles of strategic bunkers where Winston Churchill and his cabinet were to conduct their part in WW2. This unforgettable location is frozen in time and ready to be discovered once again.

Our guide was truly exceptional… wonderful anecdotal stories and so informative. She was completely able to give context to what we were seeing and was a delight to do the tour with. Although labeled as a 3 hour walking tour she rightly told us at the beginning that we would not be covering a lot of distance but we would be walking and standing a lot.

Very informative walk. Tour guide was knowledgeable of facts and figures. The walking portion of the tour could have been three or four more hours in lenght and I would not care.

The guided walking tour of the Westminster area was great. Nathan was a superb guide, with extensive historical knowledge who presented well, in an informative and humorous style. Ample free time at the War Rooms allowed us to finish at our own pace.

This was an excellent walking tour to take up part of your day in London, especially if you are keenly interested in WWII British History. We had a wonderful time with Lee, who was very knowledgeable and fun to listen to. He had lots of quick quips/facts about Churchill, British wartime, and general British political history. Enjoyable because it was not TOO much info, just enough to keep you intrigued. The war rooms were absolutely fascinating, well worth walking through. Many thanks to Lee’s tour being one of the highlights of our holiday!
