Overview

Tour out to see the rugged beauty that is Auckland’s Wild West Coast, where you will find yourself tip-toeing along a cliff-top to expose a huge, untamed Gannet colony. While rigorous waves crash below on kilometres long black sand beaches. Plus enjoy unbelievable views out to the Tasman Sea, and exploring the vast range of walks leading to greater views and waterfalls. Don’t forget your surfboard!

The Wild West Tour can be altered to fit your travel priorities and desires!

Stop At: Arataki Visitor Centre - Waitakere Ranges, 300 Scenic Drive, Nihotupu, Piha, Auckland 0604 New Zealand

The Arataki Visitor Centre is the gateway to the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park, and the wider Auckland regional parks network.

Visit the Arataki Visitor Centre to:

discover hiking tracks
learn about cultural and ecological landscapes
enjoy nature activities and art exhibitions

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Piha, Piha, North Island

One of the most popular beaches on the West Coast, known for its spectacular look-out, great surfing, big stretch of beach and great swimming! Piha is a must-visit.

Stop At: Muriwai Gannet Colony, 428 Motutara Rd Waitakere, Muriwai Beach, Auckland 0881 New Zealand

Muriwai's Gannet Colony is something everyone must see! Hundreds of Gannets have made Muriwais cliff-top, that over-looks rigourous waters their home.

Mike was a fantastic guide. Extremely knowledgeable. Loved having a private tour of the west coast of New Zealand. My family enjoyed this excursion and took many memorable photos. Highly recommend this excursion with Mike as a guide.

This excursion was worth it just for the time we spent at Piha Beach. We went to a Visitor Center, Piha Beach, and then to the top of One Tree Hill for a great view of Auckland. Mike was a very accommodating tour guide and drove us many miles. We only wish he would have given us a little more historical type information as we drove. Even with that criticism, we would recommend this tour if you want to see the west coast of the island.

Because of the weather, the guide took me around the Auckland. He has been here more than two decades and very knowledgeable of the region and people around Auckland. He has a deep knowledge of nature and culture with his training in agriculture and animal farming.
