Dataran Lang (Eagle Square)
It’s hard to miss the 12-meter tall statue of an eagle ready to take flight, one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of Langkawi. Dataran Lang or Eagle Square is located at the southeastern part of Pulau Langkawi and offers the perfect place to relax, watch ferries pass the harbor and of course, take amazing photographs.
The square has stunning views of Kuah Bay and it also has terraces, bridges, and miniature fountains. But the highlight of Dataran Lang is the reddish-brown sculpture of an eagle, which is considered the emblem of the island.
In fact, the name Langkawi is, according to folklore, derived from two Malay words—“helang” meaning eagle and “kawi” meaning reddish-brown.
Dataran Lang is also adjacent to Taman Lagenda Dalam Langkawi and the CHOGM Park, and it is within walking distance to the Jetty Point Mall and some of the top duty-free shops on the island.
A photo with the iconic reddish-brown eagle that symbolizes Langkawi is a must for every tourist that visits the island. And if you want to see this huge symbol up close as part of your itinerary, make sure to book your trip with La Vacanza where you can choose from a wide range of tour packages.
