Eravikulam National Park, Kerala
This park is a great place to see the diverse ecosystem of the elevated shola grasslands in Munnar while on a vacation in Kerala, where you will be taken to lush forests and colorful wildlife.
Known as a sanctuary for the Nilgiri tahr, an endangered mountain goat of South India, the Eravikulam National Park stands out for the stark beauty of its landscapes and scenery, spreading more than 97 square kilometers in the hills of Kannan Devan.
Among the most fascinating features of the park are the highest peak of South Himalayas, Anamudi, which stands majestically in the park’s core area, and its hill slopes that are home to many kinds of rare flora, including epiphytic and terrestrial orchids, as well as wild balsams; and valued fauna, such as the Nilgiri tahr, Nilgiri langur, tiger, leopard and the Indian bison.
As a protected area, the park is divided into 3 zones, which are the buffer area, the core area and the tourism area, known as Rajamalai, where you will be taken in forest dept vehicles and introduced to the region’s ecosystem.
During this tour, you will have the chance to observe the Nilgiri tahr up close. Just remember that the park is usually closed during the goat’s calving season, which usually occurs in the early months of the year.
