Anamudi Peak, Kerala
With an altitude of 2,695 meters, the Anamudi Peak stands tall in the Eravikulam National Park, making it one of the greatest features of Kerala Holiday. Basically, it is the highest point in the country outside the Himalayan Mountain Ranges.
Its name literally means “elephants foreheads” because of the fact that it is home to the largest surviving population of Asian elephants, which live along Nilgiri tahrs and gaurs. Covered with evergreen forests, the mountain is inhabited by endemic flora and fauna, as well as a vibrant variety of avian species.
As for the flora, it is surrounded with Gaultheria fragrantissima, Arundinaria densifolia, Anaphalis sp., black wood, bamboos and teak trees that are abundantly growing in its green forests. Specifically, the mountain is famous as home of the Neela Kurinji flower that blossoms every 12 years.
Aside from its attractive flora and fauna, the peak is also famous for offering a lot of outdoor activities, which include trekking, given that it is a high peak in the Western Ghats and is situated in the Eravikulam National Park.
These opportunities are highly available as the peak covers lush valleys and hills, long rivers and plantations. During your trek, you will be able to get a great view of beautiful rivers flowing into the east and the Periyar River flowing into the Arabian Sea.
