Located in the Temple of Wat Traimit near the Hualampong Railway Station at the end of Chinatown’s Yaowarat Road, the Golden Buddha was discovered in an accident when it was relocated in 1955.In the past, artisans hid statues of golden Buddhas in stuccos and colored glass to protect them from invading armies. When the stucco was about to be moved, it was accidentally dropped revealing the solid gold Maravijaya Attitude seated Buddha underneath the casing of plaster, parts of which are still displayed until now.The Buddha is believed to be almost 200 years old and it has elevated the temple from being of minor significance to being one of the most visited temples in Bangkok.
