Abu Dhabi - Top Tourist Attractions
As the largest emirate and capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi has no shortage of tourist attractions that locals and visitors alike can enjoy. Its splendor can be seen and experienced through its many notable landmarks--old and new.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Imposing and beautiful, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a major attraction in Abu Dhabi, with its Macedonian marble, mosaic tiles, intricate carvings, and glasswork. It combines Fatimid, Mameluke, and Ottoman designs. Non-Muslims can go on a guided tour in the mosque.
Qasr Al-Hosn
Built-in 1793, it used to be the seat of the government and home of the ruling family. Today, it is used as a museum where the history and culture of the city is well-preserved. It is Abu Dhabi's oldest building and is famous for its northern gate's magnificent tile work. It's a most notable feature, however, is the recently restored Al-Hosn Fort.
Ferrari World
Want to know what the world of Formula One racing is like? Visit this branded theme park and experience it firsthand. It features a Junior GT track for small children to test out their driving skills, and the Flying Aces roller coaster. Here, you can drown in a huge collection of Ferrari cars.
Warner Bros World
With rides inspired by The Jetsons, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Marvin the Martian, and other Warner Bros characters, this latest theme park addition in Yas Islands will take you to an otherworldly adventure. Make sure to try the Gotham City ride that combines 4D interactive content.
Louvre Abu Dhabi
This is one of the 3 planned major museums on Saadiyat Island that has already been completed and opened to the public. The vast silver dome with its contemporary architecture houses 12 galleries and artifacts that date back to the Neolithic period. Each year, several major temporary exhibits are held.
Observation Deck at 300
For a panoramic view of the city, climb up the 74th floor of the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers Hotel. There's a restaurant where you can enjoy high tea in the afternoon and snacks and light bites. If you're not staying at the hotel, you will need to pay an entry fee that is redeemable at the restaurant.
Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital
Playing a crucial part in the UAE's traditional culture, getting up close and personal with the falcons is like enjoying a piece in the life of Bedouin hunters. After all, these birds of prey are used for hunting. In this hospital, however, you'll see these magnificent winged creatures in their most vulnerable. The working veterinary hospital has an on-site museum and, depending on the activity planned for when you visit, you can hold and/or feed the falcons.
Yas Waterworld
Time to cool off. After a long day of visiting top attractions in Abu Dhabi, you can relax and take a dip at this amazing theme park with an inner-tube ride, waterslides, and a host of other rides, including the first hydromagnetic tornado water rafting ride in the world.
