Overview

Enjoy a private and authentic cooking class in a cooking studio with a chef at a cooking studio who has previously worked in airlines, restaurants and hotels. This is a perfect experience for anyone looking to connect with local culture over food. Your host will teach you how to make 2-3 traditional Peranakan dishes from family recipes. After cooking, you will enjoy your meal together in the cooking studio's dining area.

• Cooking lesson in a chef's cooking studio
• Introduction to Peranakan heritage and cuisine
• 100% private activity
• Experience Singaporean hospitality in the Lavender neighborhood
• Vegetarian and gluten free options available

This is a unique opportunity to visit a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Colin (or his equally passionate colleague when Colin is not available) hosts this experience in a cooking studio located inside a bicycle tour shop. You will pass through bicycles before entering the well-lit, perfectly organized cooking studio space, colorfully decorated with pastel pots and a mural. During your 1.5 hour hands-on Singapore cooking class, learn to make 2-3 Singaporean dishes. You can expect a hands-on experience with your host demonstrating some of the steps before giving you a chance to try everything yourself. A few dishes that you might cook together are Hainanese chicken rice, ngoh hiang (minced meat and vegetables and wrapped in bean curd) and Nyonya kueh dadar, a pandan flavored crepe with freshly grated coconut.

On days that Colin is not available, his colleague Denise will host your cooking lesson. Please NOTE the menu might vary. If you are keen to try a particular dish, for example, Nyonya Laksa, please include your request in the booking form - otherwise, your host will choose a menu based on seasonal ingredients available.

Sample Menu

• Ngoh Hiang or Spring Rolls - Five-spiced meat roll mixed with water chestnuts, carrots, garlic, shallots and spring onions, wrapped in bean curd skin or spring rolls
• Hainanese Chicken Rice, Hokkien Mee or Nyonya Laksa (upon request) -
• Nonya Kueh Dadar - Crepe filled with fragrant pandan and grated coconut sweetened with palm sugar

The advert on Tripadvisor says you will "Enjoy a private and authentic cooking class in a cooking studio with host Colin who works as the main chef at a cooking studio and has previously worked in airlines, restaurants and hotels." I arrived for my class and it was NOT conducted by Colin. When I booked the class, the advert on Tripadvisor stated that you would cook laksa. That was false. I was told on the day of my class that you "must ask to cook laksa when you book". That is NOT what the advert on Tripadvisor stated when I booked. I was never informed by phone or email that Colin was unavailable/ sick/ had left the company before my class. I'm not sure what the consumer laws in Singapore are, but the information this company put on Tripadvisor would qualify as "false and misleading" advertising in Australia. Note to "Traveling Spoon". If circumstances change and you can't offer what you advertise, contact the customer and give them an option to cancel. Your company seems to value MONEY above CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. I feel like I was conned by this company and am very dissapointed by the experience.

We had a very fun class, everything is hands on which is what we love. Chef Colin talked about culture and the history of the food, which is perfect to know when learning to cook traditional recipes. 100% recommend this class
