The Tirta Gangga royal water garden is a cool retreat in the eastern highlands of the Karangasem regency in East Bali. It lies on the south-eastern slope of the island’s highest mountain, Mount Agung, and was built in 1946 during the reign of the late king of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem (1887-1966).

Lempuyang Temple or Pura Lempuyang Luhur is one of Bali’s oldest and most venerated temples, on par with Besakih (the ‘mother temple’ of Bali). The temple is also believed to predate the majority of Hindu temples on the island. A highlight on any travel itinerary for the fit and adventurous, the main temple lies at 1,175 metres above sea level, on the peak of the namesake Mount Lempuyang in East Bali.

    I booked this trip a few weeks in advance and then called twice to verify the date/time. While on the trip halfway through the day, I received an email the trip had been canceled by Be Balinese Tour, the provider. This resulted with us having to stop at an ATM and take out the cash necessary to pay for the day even though we had paid online in advance. It seemed like a way for the driver to get paid in cash, and it was unsettling because we could not confirm that the online refund had gone through for an entire week. (It did eventually). Additionally, the snorkeling was not included and we had to pay cash for that as well, on top of the initial fee. This would have all been fine if we had been told in advance that they would prefer cash so that we could have been prepared. A side note is that we visited during a holiday so the temple at Lempyang was closed for a ceremony which is completely understandable. Its just too bad I was not told that on the phone given I had called twice in advance to confirm all the details. Snorkeling and the Water Palace were wonderful.

    We had such an amazing day! The templeos were unbelievably beautiful and the snorkeling was so much fun! This was our first visit to Bali and we were beyond impressed with the kindness shown to us and we would highly recommend!!

    We had a fabulous day snorkeling blue lagoon and also visiting Heavens gate at Lempyang. The water place in Udung was spectacular even though there was a downpour when we arrived. It is quite a long drive but well worth the trip. Wayan Sudira was an excellent guide, he speaks very good English and is also a very good driver which was very good going up the narrow winding road to the temple. He made the day fun and enjoyable and always tried to ensure we had the best experience possible. Thank you Wayan.

    Had a wonderful experience! Was taken to great locations and was allowed to spend as much time as we wanted there. Wi was our driver and taught us a lot about Balinese people and their culture!
