Our day was packed with fascinating history, beautiful scenery and memorable experiences. We could not have a had a more expert guide than Laurence, who grew up in the area and holds a degree in archeology with a focus on the Neolithic period. In addition to being so knowledgeable, Laurence is personable and well organized. The pre-tour communication was excellent and gave us the opportunity to customize the itinerary to our interests. All logistics were managed smoothly and transparently, from pick up and drop off in Bath, to navigating the crowds at Stonehenge, to arranging a delicious casual lunch at a cafe. We loved the tour of Salisbury Cathedral in the morning and seeing the Magna Carta. Quick stops at St. Thomas Church to see the medieval "Doom Painting" and at the Saxon church of St. Mary's in Alton Barnes were very interesting, as was the visit to Old Sarum where we climbed among the castle and cathedral ruins and took in dramatic 360-degree views of the Wiltshire countryside. The afternoon was an amazing journey into prehistory that included Stonehenge, the West Kennet Long Barrow burial site, Silbury Hill and Avebury. Laurence shared dig photos, maps and diagrams that provided excellent context and greatly enhanced our understanding of the ancient sites. Avebury was our favorite as we were able to take a leisurely walk among the giant stones (and grazing sheep) while listening to Laurence's rich narrative. It was a wonderful, unforgettable experience. Thank you!

Laurence was an excellent guide, from the communication in advance while we planned the itinerary, to the rhythm and pace of the day. We asked for a focus on the sites at Avebury and Stonehenge and Laurence took us on a thoughtful route that started with the Sanctuary at Avebury, with stops at the West Kennet Long Barrow, and a walk along the avenue into the Avebury circle and Silbury Hill. He noted other important features as we headed to stonehenge and woodhenge. Laurence oriented is at each site to the context within the larger landscape. We were at stonehenge later in the day, which meant the site was not overcrowded with tours. We also talked about the excellent exhibit on at the British Museum right now on The World of Stonehenge, which we visited in n our own the next day. That outstanding exhibit included many artifacts from the Wiltshire Museum, and we could think of them in the landscape we had just seen. This was a trip highlight.

Lawrence was a great guide, very knowledgeable about Stonehenge and the area, following the latest research. We saw so much and heard interesting history. We also much appreciated the flexibility in the itinerary that included everything we wanted in only about half a day.

This was an amazing tour. Worth every penny! Laurence our guide was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable about history and archeology. His explanations made the stones and ditches come alive. We could really appreciate how sophisticated humans were thousands of years ago. Very humbling! Highly recommend doing this private tour with Laurence!
