Stop At: Le Marais 3e Arrondissement, 75003 Paris France

First stop: Brittany (in western France)! You’ve undoubtedly heard of crepes, but until you’ve tasted them in France you have no idea what your taste buds are missing. Gobble down on this French pancake made with all-natural ingredients from an organic crepe restaurant. Regardless of whatever sweet ingredient you choose to fill yours (sugar, jam, chocolate, or salted caramel butter), Breton crepes can please any palate, no matter the age.

Once you’ve left Brittany, head on over to Lille (in the north of France). Get ready to taste meringue like you have never tasted it before. Trust us- this marvelous meringue and whipped cream delicacy is a light concoction that will blow your mind- and your taste buds! The only difficulty will be deciding which of 6 decadent flavors to choose!

Next stop: Alsace! This is a region located in the east of France, bordering Germany. This area is a unique melting pot of French and German cultures, which has culminated in a special set of traditions and recipes. We’re delighted to introduce you to ‘kouglof:’ an Alsatian bundt cake.

From the region of Cap-Ferret (in southwestern France), enjoy a bite of heaven, in the form of a profiterole-like pastry filled with creamy Chantilly; eating it will be a treat in itself as you see who gets the most cream on their face!

Shoot on over to the center of France for two classics: praslines from Loiret and the famous macarons of Paris.
Slide on down to the Mediterranean in the south of France for some fresh air and a marzipan-like candy: the traditional ‘calisson,’ made from almonds, candied fruit, and royal icing. Yummm!

We can’t miss the city of Bordeaux (in western France) on this trip! It may be best known to you for its wine, but it is also well known by the French for its ‘canelés:’ little cylindrical cakes typically flavored with vanilla and rum. Its caramelized crust and moist, spongy center create a marvelous pairing that both your kids and you will love.

You’ve seen and tasted a lot, but the journey isn’t over yet! It’s time to unleash your kids’ creativity and let them be the dessert experts! At our final stop, your children will be able to pick which chocolate (6 flavors, both classic and gourmet) to dunk their gingerbread man in, and then decorate them with a variety of sprinkles. Finish off your tour with a delectable hot cocoa at the same location; but this hot cocoa is special too- you and your kiddos can pick from any of the 6 flavors of chocolate and complete the French ritual of whipping the chocolate yourselves before pouring in the hot milk! What a scrumptiously interactive activity to finish up this sweet Tour de France! With their hunt completed, their treasure awaits: a signed certificate of their new Regional Sweet Specialties Connoisseur status!

Taking little kids to museums and palaces isn't always fun for them so when I found Meet the Locals via Google and they focus on making historical places fun for kids I reached. The entire team at Meet the Locals was amazing. Working with Dominique to set up everything went so smoothly. Every single one of our guides was extremely knowledgeable, full of energy, and great with kids. They kept the kids intrigued with various books and maps to find stuff in the places went. The whole team is absolutely amazing! We had 4 tours in Paris and 1 tour in London with Meet the Locals and our kids stayed interested in the Louvre, Versailles, the British Museum, and the tour of London. Our favorite tour was the Best of Pastries and Chocolate Family Tour. Our guides were knowledgeable, full of energy, and great with kids. They kept the kids intrigued with various books and maps to find stuff in the places went. I am a travel agent in the US and I have already worked with Meet the Locals and put my clients on their tours. That is how much they are amazing!

We had a wonderful time with Nathalie, discovering the amazing french pastries in Marais. She not only knows all the right places to go, she also teaches us a lot of French history, which is an extra treat. We did a tuktuk city tour with her as well, which was another great experience. It was an unforgettable day for my three kids and myself! Definitely recommend it.
