Oxford is a beautiful city packed full of fascinating and historic architecture, spacious countryside, relaxing rivers and canals and has been (and continues to be) where many inspirational people have called home.

You will be offered a unique guided cycle tour of Oxford, where you can see and experience so much more of Oxford and what it has to offer.

You'll be able to see a lot more on bike, both within the city and its surrounds.

The tour starts in the city centre exploring some of the fascinating dreaming spires, before escaping the hustle and bustle of the city centre into the surrounding countryside to ride in the un-touched Port Meadow alongside the River Thames, before getting a taste of the daily lives of past and present Oxonians.

The tour has 11 carefully selected designated stops, offering a good mixture of history, culture and hidden gems.

At each stop your friendly guides will share some insight into our historic city, allowing plenty of time for interaction and photographs.

Part 1 - Exploring the beautiful city of Oxford:

Visit the spot where the Oxford Martyrs last stood

Ride under the Bridge of Sighs

Look out for the wonderful grotesque gargoyles watching over you

Ride some of the oldest paths inside Oxford city walls

Ride to the meeting place of the famous literary group The Inklings

Part 2 - Slip away into the peaceful countryside:

Ride through historic Jericho

Visit the largest university press in the world; Oxford University Press

Ride through the historic Port Meadow

Ride along the River Thames, where Lewis Carroll began to spin the tale of Alice’s adventures in Wonderland

Visit the original burial place of the Henry II’s mistress - Rosamund the Fair

Ride along the historic Oxford Canal

Part 3 - The inspirational residents of Oxford:

Ride to the home of J.R.R. Tolkien

Hired 2 bikes for a few hours. Service was good, bikes were in very good condition. Enjoyed ride around Oxford and along the river. They were flexible with returning bikes after they shut and were efficient with returning my deposit the next day.

We hired 2xTandem bikes and cycled along the Oxford Canal to Kirtlington for lunch and an Ice Cream at Annie’s on the way back. The online booking was very easy and great value. Communication from Bainton was very good and the shop staff were very friendly on the day. Highly recommend.

Had an issue booking via Tripadvisor. Wrote an email and Ann sorted it no problem. Just did the cycle tour with Rich. My daughter and I were late and Rich accommodated us nonetheless. Wonderful tour of countryside and city. Rich was very pleasant and informative. Was with us for well over 2 hours. Would highly recommend. Thank you Rich!!!

Friendly bike shop staff prepared our bikes and our guide was Angus who was very personable and knowledgeable. The tour took in all the main sights in the city centre along with a ride along the canal to Wolvercote, returning to the city along the side of the River Thames. The bikes were good quality and we felt safe as there were plenty of bike lanes. This is a fantastic way to see the city as so much more ground can be covered. Would highly recommend.

We had an excellent cycle tour of Oxford with Angus who was very knowledgeable and personable. The bike shop staff were helpful when it came to sizing up our bikes which were of very good quality. It was a great way to see the main sights within the city, along with venturing further out along the canal to Wolvercote and back along the River Thames. As bikes are commonplace within Oxford there were plenty of cycle lanes and we felt safe, even when we did have to navigate busier roads. Although it was cold we had a bright sunny day but it probably wouldn't be as enjoyable if it had been raining as the return trip is very exposed. We would highly recommend this tour.
