Overview

Now using a radio transmitter and receiver so you won’t miss any of this amazing story.

Max group size 12 so you will not be following 35 or 40 people. We start the adventure at Whitechapel Station because that's where Jack the Ripper started.

With the help of the FBI Special Agent John Douglas's 1988 profile of Jack the Ripper and Scotland Yard's 2008 geographical profile you will explore the Jack the Ripper mystery from his first unsolved murder in Buck's Row to his last in Dorset Street.

You will discover the victims' story. Who they were. Why they were targeted. How they were killed so swiftly and silently.

It's a truly fascinating story that goes beyond the cliche of the toff in his top hat and opera cape seeking his next victim among the raddled fourpenny whores of Whitechapel.

Blanketed by fog, London was 'The Big Smoke' home to a silent and invisible serial killer we call Jack the Ripper.

Brick Lane is of course the curry capital of Great Britain but this is also the eastern boundary of where all five victims lived at the the time of the murders. And Flower and Dean Street where the third and fourth victims lived and also where Scotland Yard believe Jack the Ripper was living. And a stone's throw from Brick Lane is where Annie Chapman, the second victim, was found murdered. More CSI and a second suspect who fits both a Scotland Yard geographical profile and also a profile created by the FBI.

The magnificent example of Nicholas Hawksmoor's work. Christchurch Spitalfields which stands right opposite the famous, or should that be infamous, Ten Bells Pub. A pub that gets its name from the church that stands across the road from it. A pub that the victims drank in.

I have been wanting to visit the UK and tour the infamous Whitechapel neighborhood home to the Jack The Ripper murders since first hearing of the story as a kid. Reading the reviews I was inclined to choose an author of a published book but I ended up choosing Richard's tour for its limited group size and it turned out to be a great choice. He provided good instructions as to where to meet him and he was unmistakable in his signature Indiana Jones hat. Richard handed everyone an amplified ear peace which I thought was brilliant, thus being in a noisy neighborhood where we would otherwise compete to hear the talk over the crowds and noise. I withheld my profession as a Special Agent until the end and I let Richard carry on unknowing of my experience and training in criminal investigation. Although I disagreed with his overall theory, I was quite impressed with his research. I was most impressed to find that he was one of the very few who challenged the conventional wisdom as to a number of aspects of the murders that have been accepted as definitive fact for face value. Richard offers a very good challenges to the absolutism that has otherwise been accepted most notably that the female victims were definitively working as prostitutes in White Chapel. This spirited challenge equally calls into question their behaviors on the night of their death and the eyewitness testimony concerning what several witnesses "believed" they were seeing. Richard equally pointed out some significant vulnerabilities in the eye witness testimony that has for the most part been accepted as accurate and factual. I really appreciated his critical analysis and thinking of the murders not being a regurgitation of the same hashed out run of the mill analysis. I would highly recommend Richards walking tour.

Richard was very knowledgeable and well versed on Jack the Ripper but more importantly the victims. There was much to learn about the time, and he was the man for the job!

Richard knows his stuff! We all enjoyed that the tour was so much more than lurid and salacious details. It was history and a look into life in London in the late 1800’s. To reveal much more would ruin the surprise. Suffice it to say that my group of friends and I still discuss what we learned that rainy night! We truly appreciated the headphones as well.

Having done tours with Richard before, I knew about his guiding quality. A special appeal of his Jack the Ripper tour was the small group size. It turns out that on a cold January evening, I was the only tour guest. As usual, Richard had researched his topic very well and delivered the facts in a very entertaining way. It also showed me areas of London I had not visited before (and I have lived here for 14 years). I would definitely recommend this tour and, of course, Richard as a tour guide.
