Itinerary

Stop At: Inner Temple, London EC4Y 7HL England

On our journey towards the locations featured in A Christmas Carol we will take in some other Dickens sights. Let's explore the area where Dicken's worked as a junior Clerk. From the mysterious Inns of Court he took inspiration that would later find it's way in to David Copperfield, Great Expectations, and Martin Chuzzlewit.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, 145 Fleet St, London EC4A 2BP, UK

A Tavern with Cellars dating to the 13th Century. This Pub was a haunt of Dickens and a meeting place for the Hellfire Club. David Copperfield drinks here in the Novel of the same name.
Shall we rest by the fire and warm up with some Mulled Wine?

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Royal Exchange Building London, Threadneddle St Mansion House, London England

Right next to the Bank of England, the Royal Exchange is where the Ghost of Christmas yet to come takes Scrooge to see his colleagues discussing his funeral. The steps of the Exchange are the traditional spot where Royal announcements are made.
Today you can cross the trading floor, but the bankers are long gone. Now designer shops, and Champagne bars attract the visitors attention.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: London's Original and All-Inspiring Coffee House, St Michael's Alley, London EC3V 9DS, UK

Let's get off the beaten path and head deep into the world of Ebeneezer Scrooge and 'A Christmas Carol' as we visit Scrooge's Counting House, the place where he took supper on Christmas Eve, and Charles Dickens favourite Chop House the George and Vulture.
If Dickens was on this tour with us, he would be able to go in to the George and Vulture, find his favourite table, and even order his favourite meal. Not a lot has changed.
This atmospheric old tavern was the meeting place of the Pickwick Club and is mentioned over 20 times in the Pickwick Papers.
The equally unchanged Tavern round the corner, Simpsons is most likely Scrooge's favourite eating spot. Your guide will explain why!

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: George and Vulture, 3 Castle Ct, London EC3V 9AE, UK

One of Charles Dickens favorite restaurants and Chop Houses.
Mr Pickwick and his famous Club met here. As did the notorious Hellfire Club.
The interior of this fine establishment is unchanged since the time of Dickens.

Duration: 5 minutes

Stop At: Simpson’s Tavern, 38 1/2 Cornhill, London EC3V 9DR, UK

Was this Scrooges Dismal Tavern?

Duration: 5 minutes

Stop At: Leadenhall Market, Gracechurch Street, London EC3V 1LR England

In recent years this beautiful market has been used in the Harry Potter Films. But Charles Dickens used this location in A Christmas Carol. It was here that Scrooge sent the boy to fetch the largest Turkey on Christmas morning when he awoke as a reformed man.

My daughter and I enjoyed the tour with Richard who showed us around London which is less commercialized. London, where Charles Dickens took his inspiration from was much more intriguing for us. Richard is knowledgeable and easy to communicate with. We appreciated his passion for his job and Dickens. Highly recommended:)

Richard was an excellent tour of all things Dicken’s! It was a real treasure to walk in the footsteps to see how a Christmas Carol came to be. It was nice learning about the history of London so long ago.

I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. For fans of Dickens, or lovers of London history, or even those who wish to know a bit more about old London, Richard's tour is a total joy. While history based tours can often be chock-full of information, they can be dry and dusty - NOT SO with Richard's Tours....always engaging, often humorous and yet loaded with fun facts, this walking tour was an absolutely fantastic experience and I would gladly recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in London - particularly those who visit around the holidays like myself - and I would advise you to take advantage of his recommendations for food and sightseeing beyond the scope of the tour. I did just that and am so glad I did...his food suggestions ended up being utterly fabulous, and he suggested to revisit some of the ground we covered on the tour, but at night when lit with the lights of London and that too was advice well-taken! Thanks, Richard for a fabulous Dickensian experience!

Richard was a great tour guide. Loved that he explained his rationale for why he believed certain places were the places described in A Christmas Carol. Highly recommend this tour.
