Overview

The main reason that scuba divers travel the world to get to Tulamben is the USAT Liberty Shipwreck, lying just 40 meters from the beach and certainly the most accessible WW II shipwreck that you are likely to dive

A combination of torpedoes and a volcanic eruption have caused this great ship to sit in shallow waters. The top sits in just 5 meters and the rest drops away to around 30 meters meaning all levels of diver can experience parts of this wreck, which is festooned with healthy corals, sea fans and great barrel sponges

With an easy shore entry, calm conditions and good visibility, the Tulamben Shipwreck is en excellent dive site for those trying scuba diving for the first time as well as for more experienced divers.

What Can You Expect?

Itinerary

In the morning, you will be picked up between 6:30 – 7:15 am, we will then first bring you to our dive center in Sanur for paperwork and equipment trial. Then you will board our mini bus to Tulamben, the ride will take about 2.5 hours.

Once arrived in Tulamben, you will first go in the pool with your instructor to learn a few basic skills. Your instructors will also explain all the theory that you need to know before heading into the water. Once you mastered the skills you will then go in the ocean and do your first dive. After an about 30-45 minutes dive you will go to the restaurant and have your well-earned lunch. After a bit of a rest your instructor will take you out for your second dive in the ocean which will again take between 30 and 45 minutes, the dive time depends a bit on how much air you use during the dive. Apart from the USAT Liberty Shipwreck, you will be able to see many different fish and maybe you even cross paths with a turtle.

When finished with the two dives you can take a shower and get changed before heading back to the south. Usually we arrive back at our dive center around 5:00 pm. From there we will then drop you back to your accommodation.

    Once we got into the waters of Blue Lagoon, I was blown away by the beauty of the underwater world. The colours, the marine life, and the feeling of weightlessness all combined to create an experience that was truly unforgettable. My instructor made sure I felt comfortable and confident throughout the dive and pointed out interesting sights and marine life. Thank you for teaching me how to dive and hopefully next time around I won't puke up my rice ball =)

    My dive experience with Blue Season Bali was extraordinary! I had not gone diving in almost a decade and was nervous about getting back into it. The staff was so accommodating and created an itinerary that would allow me a refresher and two dives—all within my limited trip time frame! They were able to coordinate with me quickly and easily via WhatsApp, and I am so grateful for how courteous and considerate the communication is.     The good: (1) the trip to the diving site was a 2-hour personal ride in one of the instructor’s (Andy) car as he had to bring me to a clinic first given that I declared having asthma. (2) this was my first ever experience doing diving and I knew I had fear of going underwater. I wanted to give up even before going down 1m in the open water but one of instructor Godje was kind and patient enough to stay with me (the other participants had gone down earlier with the rest of the instructors) and provide personal guidance and handholding for close to 15-20min until I am confident enough to proceed. I really couldn’t thank him enough for the experience. I conquered my fear because of him! Thing to improve: (1) maybe provide the health declaration form earlier so that we won’t be wasting time going to the clinic on that day itself? (2) given that I had zero experience diving, I thought the first 15-20min dive will be in a swimming pool instead of open water. That was a shock to me. Overall, I can’t complain. I did my dive and I had Andy and Godje to thank for the experience.

    Quite the best experience I had during my time in Bali. My guides Devin and Phoebe were amazing, making the trip out to Tulamben really relaxing from start to finish, explaining everything clearly, and making me feel incredibly comfortable throughout. 10/10 recommend trying the Discover Diving experience if you have the time.
