‘A day in the life of…’ is what Bali Asli has perfectly incorporated in its exquisite and truly authentic cooking experience. Set near the Mount Agung foothills, one cannot deny that learning traditional Balinese cooking with such a view will be amazing.

With a strong commitment to supporting the local community, almost all the ingredients are either locally-grown in the school’s garden, from any of the neighbours or purchased from a local market nearby. The western owners wanted to promote Balinese cuisine and culture in the best and most authentic means possible. Lessons will use each participant with its Balinese style kitchen, including wood-fired stoves made out of mud bricks to captivate the essence of the island’s local cuisine.

We embrace our community, supporting those who fish, farm and forage in the nearby fields, ocean and jungle. Our menu offers traditional Balinese food using an authentic Balinese style kitchen. We cook on wood-fired, mud brick stoves, allowing the real flavours of Bali to shine. Most of our ingredients are either grown in our garden, in our neighbour’s garden or purchased from the local market. You’ll be looking back in a true adventure that incorporates not only local delicacies but also the story behind each dish. The fun part comes when you finally can taste what you have prepared on the terrace overlooking Mount Agung. Transfer back to your hotel where you will arrive at around 2 pm.

This was the ABSOLUTE favorite experience of my trip! Firstly, the grounds are beautiful. The owner/ chef, Penelope Williams is a lovely lady, and a GREAT resource for understanding the culture of Bali and Indonesia as a whole. I took the Day in the Life of a Balinese Woman cooking class. We started the day off at the market and bought supplies to cook with. We also sampled a few street foods from local vendors. After returning from the market, you’ll have a coffee or tea and then you’ll make a Hindu offering basket. After participating in the morning ritual, you'll get to cooking! She can tailor the menu to any dietary restrictions, and will send you a PDF of recipes so you don’t have to keep up with paperwork on your trip. She also offers other types of cooking classes (street foods, a trekking class, etc.). The best way to organize a class is by emailing the cooking school and the response time is very speedy and transparent. You can also pay by paypal! You will go home stuffed!
