I do highly recommend this train experince as it's amazing and best way to get know Sri Lanka. Even if the train takes 6 hours, all the time there is so much to see. We took so many photos. We travelled in 1st class with A/C, reserved seats, highly recommended, as the train was quite full. This agency provides a perfect reservation service with tickets delivery to our hotel in Kandy. 100% satisfaction. Thanks a lot for your service.

Mahaweli were amazing at organising this for us from start to finish. They make it very easy to communicate via WhatsApp and communication is basically 24/7. I asked for second class reserved tickets and the day before I wanted to change as we realised we would like AC in first class and western toilets. Mahaweli were great at meeting our request and we didn’t even have to wake up early to collect the tickets. They dropped them off at our hotel reception in an envelope with my name on. Payment was also easy via a payment link so no cash needed on the day. Would 100% recommend as they made our lives so much easier and with 0 stress.

We booked tickets for the train trip from Kandy to Ella with Mahaweli Tours. I can recommend this to everyone. The process was very easy, we bought tickets on TripAdvisor. The contact we had after booking via WhatsApp with Geesara was very pleasant. The train tickets were delivered to our hotel the very morning. When we woke up, the train tickets were at the reception desk. We had first-class tickets, reserved seats, and it was perfect. There was room for our suitcases. Air conditioning was something we really appreciated and hadn't thought of before, and we could walk to the open door in first class for pictures whenever we wanted. The ride was one of a lifetime and the time went very fast. We had the train from 11 and this train was less crowded, for us this was perfect. We even watched the sunset from the train and it was spectacular. We can recommend Mahaweli Tours and you can trust them. I worried a little bit but they delivered our tickets on time.

We travelled from Gampola to Nanu Oya. Yes, it was very scenic, but nothing exceptional … In addition, the train was running approximately 15 minutes late where we joined at Gampola, and by the time we arrived at Nanuoya, that delay had extended to over 30 minutes. If you DO join at Gampola, it is worth walking down the platform towards the signal box where, at the end of the station building, is a height representation of the flood water levels going as far back as 1906, and beyond that a sign on top of a tall pole, where the flood level reached in 1947 (the entire station would have been fully submerged !). Personally, and given some of the other train journeys we have undertaken, I found the journey rather underwhelming. Granted, it wins hands down on New Delhi to Agra train journey, but doesn’t touch the TransAlpine in New Zealand or Rocky Mountaineer in Canada.

We booked 2 nd class reserved via 12GoAsia 4 weeks ahead of travel - a little more expensive but a great service of tickets hand delivered to our local homestay and good tracking advice during process. The journey, we did Ella to Kandy was superb. Late arriving to start but fun watching life on the train station. Shame there were mainly tourists on this train and few locals, however we were entertained by the frequently passing food vendors both on and on the tracks at stations. I just loved the freshly cooked peanuts and veggie pakoras!! The drive was slow enough to capture on camera many of the splendid views that never ceased to amaze and thrill along the way. Well worth spending 5 or 6 hours meandering through the countryside and found neither left or right side was better, equal glorious viewing for the entire time.
