Overview

Whirling Dervish Ceremony: It is known as the most mystical dance in the world, created and developed with the inspiration of Rumi (1207-1273). It taught by Shams-i Tabriz to Mevlana. In fact, when looked more deeply, it is the ritual of the Mevlevi dervishes. It can be summarized as the ritual they perform by opening their arms to both sides, turning their right palm to the sky and turning their left palm to the earth, and taking them from God and giving them to the people, accompanied by instruments such as the Ney. (Reed Flute) Here, music is an instrument that helps meditation.

So humbled and honoured to witness the ceremony. So beautiful and spiritual. I came all the way from UK to see this. Something I got inspired by watching the Yunis Emre drama.

Thanks for a priceless experience! I received door-to-door treatment as if I were a VIP, and being the only guest for that day enhanced it further - the lady who fetched me made an effort to share her knowledge on Cappadocia. And the ceremony itself was mesmerising, I could relate to it well, being a Muslim - I was tearing at the end of the ceremony. It was beautiful. Regardless of your religious beliefs, I feel that the ceremony could be enjoyed by anyone who would like to experience something different.

What an experience! Definitely not for people who are looking for entertainment . This is an authentic dervish ceremony. No gimmicks, just pure ascension of the soul.

It was an interesting experience to be able to witness a traditional authentic Dervish ceremony. Do take note that some tour operators doesn’t offer authentic Dervish ceremony where there is live music playing. Paphalgonia tour from Cappadocia offers a genuine traditional Dervish ceremony and conducts a pre-show briefing in Russian, Turkish and English language. Although this ceremony might not satisfy a non-muslim individual as it is mostly
