Itinerary

Potter's wheel experience

We're blessed with ample studio space and will social distance participants accordingly.

Please allow 1.5hrs for your visit.

On arrival you'll be offered a warm welcome from either Jon or his wife and fellow maker Sarah.

Following an easy to follow, step by step demonstration, you will share a wheel between two, having two goes each. You’ll then be offered one of three choices:

1) The ‘green’ option. We’ll recycle your attempts so your clay can be enjoyed again and again by our lovely customers.

2) Select your favourite pot to take away, air-dry and paint at home.

3) For an additional £20 per pot we’ll fire and glaze your creation. If you go for option 3, your masterpiece will need to dry thoroughly before it goes in the kiln. It will be fired twice. This whole process takes about a month, after which we’ll contact you to let you know it’s ready for collection from the Pottery. P+P can be arranged at £5 per item.

How much fun was that! We had a whole day (6 hours) of learning how to do basic clay throwing and had a very enjoyable day. The pottery is in a great location at the edge of The Malvern Hills and the workshop is a lovely place to experience the delights of pottery making. Jon and Sarah were so enthusiastic and were great teachers - we were absolute novices and they were very patient and very supportive. There were more experienced potters in the group but everybody supported each other. A great experience - highly recommended.

Fantastic weekend course. We spent day 1 learning how to use the wheel. Jon showed us what to do and then patiently guided us in doing it. By the end of the day we’d all got pots to boast about. Day 2 we found out how to add some finesse to our work by ‘turning’ and then painting our work. Great atmosphere, excellent learning environment. No learning by humiliation. I’d thoroughly recommend it. Just don’t dress to impress. You’ll be covered in clay by lunchtime.

My partner and I spent a weekend doing this course. My partner had experience (60 years ago) and wanted to renew his interest. I had no prior experience. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My partner has Alzheimers and finds it hard to concentrate. I was worried he would find the course confusing. I need not have worried. The friendly, genuinely warm and interested, approach of Jon and Sarah, the pace and attention they gave to all their students and the lovely environment of their studio helped us both relax. A delightful weekend which I would both wholeheartedly recommend and would like to repeat.

Total joy to be shown the way of the wheel by Jon. Super relaxed and friendly atmosphere and great pace for having a go at a new craft. I had never even sat at a potters wheel before but was so pleased to make two decent pots under Jon’s tuition.
