During this 4-5 hours unique cooking workshop, you’ll be taken into an authentic local spice market to explore it with fun challenges to complete and learn different species of Sichuan spices and ingredients that will be used in the following cooking class. Go hungry as you’ll want to eat all the delicious food you will prepare. Our guide Jerry was enthusiastic and informative, with interesting anecdotes about the neighbourhood as we walked to the market. He invited us to try many different things along the way. We were especially delighted to be welcomed into the chefs home to prepare our meal, as the cooking school was being renovated. We found chef patient and professional as he guided us through the 5 traditional Sichuan dishes. They even developed vegetarian options for me which I think surprised even chef as to how tasty they were. Jerry was engaging and had wonderful English, and chef joined in the conversation during our shared dinner. A special memory to take away from our days in Chengdu.

What an amazing experience!!! We had the most wonderful time with our guide and chef! The market visits was great, we have learned so much and tasted various new things. The cooking class was just perfect, food delicious and playful, guide knowledgeable and really catered for our every need! They even took us back to the trian station. Just the best day !!!

Not only has the city of Chengdu been the highlight of our trip, but meeting Jerry our guide for the cooking class was the ultimate best! From the moment he said hello in the lobby, to the walking tour of the markets and all his knowledge, we were having so much fun. We asked so many questions and he kept up with us. He took pictures for us, and we stopped and talked to many local people (with Jerry’s help!). Then we went to the cooking class and met Chef Liang. He helped us create three dishes that turned out so good! He understands English well and Jerry helps translate everything. At the end of the class, we ate our freshly-cooked meal. It was so nice of the chef to invite us into his home for this experience. It was so interesting! I can’t say enough good things about how much fun we had. And they even gave us a bunch of recipes: not only what we cooked, but more to try on our own with the techniques and ingredients we learned.

We had a wonderful time with Jerry as our guide- you need to ask for him if you go on this tour. He was full of energy and a lot of fun. Our chef was Leon and he was knowledgeable and hosted us in his home.

It was a lot of fun. We went to a market we otherwise would not have found, saw a number of interesting things. And it was a blast to learn first-hand how to cook some Sichuanese dishes. It was explained to us in an understandable way, and they made sure to give us some criticism and room for improvement, as well.
