Overview

Visit Long Melford with this self-guided audio tour for anyone who wants to discover more of the village than just it’s views. Join me on this walk around the green, get to know the village like a local and hear how it got its start in the wool trade. Along the way, you’ll hear a few of the stories that get talked about when the locals get together in the pubs.

You’ll hear about:

• The Abbots of St Edmunds
• Where John Lennon caused a flood
• What caused the riot act to be read for the last time in England
• And why a man had butter melting under his hat

There is a whole way of life around the green to discover. You might even fancy a bit of "ordinary" at the end of the tour.

You need decent ear buds/head set for this walk as there is quite a bit of traffic noise in places. The app works well and has plenty of interesting facts but could have either slightly longer or a bit cheaper.

This was our second Voicemap tour, having completed the one at Lavenham the day before. The tour covers the area of Long Melford adjacent around the green, adjacent to Melford Hall which we haven't visited before and gives a brief history of a range of buildings including a number of the houses so we understood what we were looking at. The names of the houses suddenly made sense. The style of the narration was really good. The GPS function worked perfectly with the audio resuming as we reached each point of interest, which were also shown on the map as part of the app. The app even guided us to the start point of the tour as a Satnav.
