Lucy did an amazing job of introducing us to authentic Chinese/Beijing local food! All the food was outstanding! She personalized the tour, explained history and culture behind items and truly showed us her passion for her city's cuisine. We can away with a new appreciation of the variety and tastes! She was delightful and walked us through neighborhoods as well, giving us an insider's look at this wonderful city! Can't say enough about our experience! A MUST!

We booked a private tour for our group of four adults, to explore some different areas around Beijing and try some great local food. Our guide Jimmy met us at our hotel, and we traveled a few stops on the subway to our tour location. Jimmy was fantastic, with terrific english, a good sense of humour and tons of knowledge. He adjusted a couple of the stops and helped us with making safe food choices (two of our group members suffer from celiac disease). In addition to teaching us about some of the local cuisines, Jimmy taught us about life in China, which was fantastic! The tour made for a great last night in Beijing!

We had a wonderful time on our food tour with Jimmy! We started at “donkey burger” which turned out to be thinly chopped donkey meat in a flaky, pastry like roll. Our guide said it tastes like corned beef and he was right, surprisingly tasty! Then the tour continued with hot pot where you could add all the vegetables and meats you want, but save room for the many courses later! We stopped at a little window on the street for a savory pancake at a small window on the street and walked down a hunting neighborhood while eating the warm pancake. Our next stop was a Muslim restaurant where we ordered lamb skewers (very tasty), naan bread, noodle soup, and yogurt. We also ordered the century egg which was dressed in oil and chili pepper. My husband declared it good while I would have probably said okay, but still worth trying just to say you’ve done it! Our last two stops were at a soup dumpling place (so good!) and a little dessert cart where we ordered egg tarts and date cake. What a wonderful night with wonderful food for such a reasonable price! Thanks again Jimmy!

Overall, we enjoyed the personable experience and the story telling. We had our tour with Anson. And he made the tour very personable for us. He brought us to places where we would not have gone on our own. My favorite part besides the eating was the little tour of the hutongs. He shared with us the significance of the door ways which made our trip to the forbidden city more relatable. Food wise though, we're from Los Angeles which already have a lot of similar food and this tour gave us a new insights about the cuisine.

This is not the Hutong area to go with teenagers or if you are looking for a lively Hutong area. This is old backstreet Beijing looking at houses, and no fun shops to look at between food stops just houses and outdoor toilets. In regards to food we were looking for more fun foods for teenagers like fruit on a stick, e.g this is not the tour. Our guide tried to accommodate one in our party for gluten free which was about the only positive things I can say about this tour.
