Overview

This two-day hiking provides you with many original towers and challenge in remote sections of the Great Wall in an affordable way. The driver will pick you up at downtown meeting point and then drive to the Great Wall, and the local farmer guide will greet you upon arrival. The farmer guide will escort you for 2 days hiking on the Wall. Gubeikou & Jinshanling are far away from Beijing, less-visited all year round. There's also a chance to learn the daily life in rural China.

Itinerary

Day 1: Beijing to Gubeikou

Stop At: The Great Wall of Gubeikou, Gubeikou Town, Beijing 101508 China
Gubeikou, along with the passes at Shanhaiguan in the east and Juyongguan in the west, was a key strategic target in military campaigns since ancient times. Protecting these three passes was considered vital for keeping Beijing safe from the Mongolian nomads. There was also a fierce battle between Chinese and Japanese in the 2nd World War. The vistas of the sinuous Wall snaking its way over the ridges of the Yanshan Mountain are breathtaking.
Duration: 3 hours

Meals included:

Accommodation included: Great Wall Inn Gubeikou

Day 2: Jinshanling to Beijing

Stop At: Jinshanling Great Wall, Chengde Shi, Luanping County 068250 China
Jinshanling offers arguably the finest hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 15 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. There is fascinating variety in the watchtowers here. Some have two storeys, others three. Some have flat roofs, others rounded and others again are pitched with upturned eaves. This section of the wall is wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here.

Peter was an incredible tour guide. He was knowledgable on the areas we were hiking, the ancient history, and the modern history, as well. I went in a group of 4 girls total. It was a challenging and completely rewarding hike. I will recommend this guided tour to anyone who wants to get out of the tourist wall, and on to the wild wall. Thank you Peter!!

We had our own wonderful guide (Peter) who took us to a derelict part of the wall for the first day, everything falling apart and overgrown - no other people around. After the first day’s walk, we spent the night in a farmers lodge-super basic but very clean and friendly. Amazing food! On the second day we walked along a restored section of the wall- both sections were stunning in their own way, it poured with rain for the first 2 hours on day two with some thunder and lightening, and the place was deserted again. Hard to describe how fantastic this wall really is- almost as good as snorkeling a coral reef! (but more exhausting!- Although Peter did say we were quite fit "for our age") Definitily would recommend the whole guided walk - included all food and drinks for the 2 days, plus the guide, driver, private car, wonderful photos. Peter spoke fluent English and was really clued up on the wall and China's history too...

We went on a private two day tour with Luis. It was my husband and me with our 1 1/2 year old daughter, which was no problem at all. We could always stop when we needed to and go at our possible pace. Luis was a great guide!! We learned a lot about China in general and especially about the wall. There were a lot of times, where we had the option to decide, if we wanted to go further or walk less. We spent the night at a small bed and breakfast with amazing food and very friendly people. It was great to see a bit of the rural life outside of Beijing. the hot pot lunch the next day rounded up this great experience. We felt like we really got to see some real life in China. The wall is something very special and especially the wilder not restored parts were amazing to see. Unbelievable what they built and the only way to really see it and get an idea is to walk a part of it. Thank you Luis and we can only recommend doing this tour! it is worth the money.

We booked a 2-day hiking trip on the Great Wall with Great Wall Hiking. It fully met our expectations. Yaxin was a very competent and experienced guide and it was a pleasure to spend two days with him on the Wall. From the Pick up from our hotel in Beijing to the drop off Yaxin and our driver Jisan were very helpful and flexible to adapt the program according to weather conditions or our personal wishes. We have learnt a lot about the Wall, the chinese history and culture and about the region. I can definitively recommend this trip if you want to see the wall at different sections with restored and unrestored parts.

We were able to customize the 2 day itinerary by adding an additional day and it was well worth the money! Commission from the main office was flawless as well as that of the trekking guide. Yashin our guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the wall and local areas we traveled through. We had to make an adjustment one evening last minute and although he had never had a change in itinerary he handled it flawlessly! Everything went smoothly and with great ease! Jason our driver was always on time and his vehicle spotless. No difficulty with the language barrier either: Yashin spoke perfect English! I will say that although this was advertised as an intermediate trek it was a bit more challenging so I would prepare yourself a little beforehand. Accessing the wall each day involves a big of a vertical climb through the woods! Great trip, great company and the best way to see the wall!
