Overview

One of Turkey's most enigmatic and evocative locations is Cappadocia, the largest open-air museum in the world and a fascinating realm of antiquity steeped in legends and secrets. The area's distinctive geological landscapes, which were created millions of years ago as a result of periodic volcanic eruptions, will astound visitors. This region was covered by tuff, a porous rock that was formed during the earth's volcanic activity. After that, there was a period of erosion, which transformed these materials into pillars with odd shapes like mushrooms, animal and human faces, and so forth. Excellent wines from red, green, and black grapes are produced by the land and environment.

The most famous historical feature of Avanos, which is still relevant and very visible today, is its production of earthenware pottery. The ceramic trade in this district and its countless pottery factories date right back to the Hittites, and the ceramic clay from the red silt of the Kızılırmak has always been used.

Within those times, the city experienced many events like the Crusades and Arab Invasions which were the very important wars made for religion. Therefore, the peasants built many underground cities around the districts of Cappadocia to protect themselves against the war, attacks and persecution. Pacha means "General", the military rank, in Turkish and it is a very common nick name. This site is also called Monks Valley. This was not what I was expecting. And not in a good way. We were picked up at 3am, only to wait at a gas station for 1.5hrs for nothing. We eventually pulled over on a highway, told to move from our car to a bus so that someone who “was not feeling well” could take the car rather than the bus. We were then placed in a group of Russians where majority of everything was in Russian. Because of this, I did not fee I got the full experience. Since the group was so large, we made a ridiculous amount of stops so they could either drink or smoke. All the time. Ridiculous!! Which ultimately led to more bathroom breaks. And since there was so many of them, we made more pointless stops because they wanted to. We did not see everything on the itemized list, nor did we get to see any dancers. Which I was really looking forward to. If you don’t choose to do the balloons, the fee is 15$USD, which was not mentioned until much later into the bus ride. That fee is for a “panoramic view”. Majority of that time is spent on a ground watching them take off. Not a panoramic. All in all, pretty disappointed with the experience we had.
