Pass By: The Jordaan, Amsterdam The Netherlands

The most common theory on the origin of the name is as a derivation of the French word Jardin, meaning garden: most streets and canals in the Jordaan are named after trees and flowers. Another theory is that the Prinsengracht canal was once nicknamed Jordaan (the Dutch name for the river Jordan) and that the neighborhood beyond the canal came to be called this as well. Our Flagship canal tour will start and end here in the Jordaan.

Unfortunately the boat cruise we booked wasn't running (or didn't exist) so they put us on a different one. The guides were poor, putting in little effort. There was no atmosphere on the boat. The rain didn't help, so we couldn't see anything through the steamed up windows. A very dissapointing experience, not worth the money. Maybe don't book for a Sunday evening.

Two random historical facts were spat in two random moments and no substantial information was provided for the city history. The boat was fairly crowded as well. We chose to not get drinks or food, so we have no opinion on the food and drink selection.

Before booking the cruise, I did a good research as the weather was pretty bad in Amsterdam so we wanted to go in a boat with a cabin or at least partially covered. When we arrived, to our surprise, the boat was all opened, no shelter at all, and as soon as we got on , it started to rain and hail. We had to spend ten or fifteen minutes stopped under a bridge because of the heavy rain before we could start the cruise. The reason for my complaint is we felt absolutely deceived by the cruise company

If you want a booze cruise … great, We didn’t !!!!!! Not hugely informative, some of the language used wasn’t appropriate especially as a few children were on board.

We booked the Evening Tour expecting an insightful tour, but we were on the same boat as the Booze Cruise. That wasn’t the vibe we were looking for. The actual tour itself was extremely patronising, it felt like we weren’t told a single fact without being asked to guess it first. “So guys, everyone guess how many boats are in Amsterdam!” “Hey Everyone, do you know why the houses are so thin?” No we don’t, that’s why we are on a tour, just tell us. The booze cruise people were having fun though, so if that’s your vibe go for that. If you are looking for a mature insightful tour then avoid this one.
