The queuing system is idiotic. Customers are divided into those who purchased tickets and those who didn’t. They are separated into two lines, with those who bought tickets on the internet being in the longer queue. The queue then brings you to counters where you get your physical tickets. There was a QR code but the counter staff typed in the confirmation code. Wow! And the wait was LONG. What century does Ngong Ping 360 and MTR live in? Yes packages and marketing are professionally done, but doing this idiotic logistics would turn away many digitally savvy folks. For an HK iconic company running a top tourist attraction puts HK into shame with this kind of operation. Haven’t they benchmarked anyone else. The ride itself is nice.
Excellent but expensive. Just booked online and went there for visiting Po Lin. Excellent view and very relaxing trip. Took the bus back. This way is extremely much more comfortable
A one-day tour that you can't miss. Cable car, snacks and foods, souvenirs, and traditional Buddhist temples.... all in one
First, this review was written during Covid-19 so things will hopefully be different soon. Honestly I was in Tung Chung for a three days staycation and the weather was cool enough to let me wonder around. I came with little expectation so I was okay with the experience. The ride itself was fine. Staffs were polite and there was no queue at all on this quiet Monday afternoon. For $235 roundtrip, the 30 minutes ride (hour roundtrip) was good value especially most folks got their own cable car given the low usage. The cable car was washed after each ride. The window was not too overly stratched but still not particularly photo friendly. As an AvGeek (aviation enthusiast), it was a fun ride overlooking the airport. Sadly, there was just not much traffic during Covid-19, but it was still nice. I valued that part the most. There was an official photographer at Tung Chung station taking pictures of each group at the Cable Car Station. He was actually pretty good but $395 for a photo was a bit much. Once arrived at the station in the Ngong Ping Village, I walked into a small "Chinese" village with ranges of restaurants and cafes. Then you can walk further down to the Monastery to visit the Buddha, but it is under repair now. (It makes sense since there is no tourist now!) Please beware that there is no air conditioning with the cable car so it might not be that nice in the summer.
Terrible terrible and irresponsible operator. We went around 4pm in the afternoon knowing it’s opened till 8pm that night and we bought return tickets. We were asked to get a QR code to queue and come back at the relevant time to get on the cable car which I thought it was good arrangement. We went with my in-laws and young kids and we were all excited and happy..... until we arrived at On Ping, and we saw the long long long queue of people trying to board the cable car for their return trip. At that time, the queuing time was 100 min. We were hoping the queue would be gone after we have taken the walk in the area. By around 7pm, the sun has set and knowing it would close at 8pm, we returned to the station and then realised we needed to queue for 2 hours before we can board. That means the earliest we could leave would be 9pm. All restaurants were closed and the elderly and the kids were getting tired and there’s no way we would stand there queue for 2 hours in the cold. We had to book two taxi to return to Tung Chung. We have wasted our return trip for 6 ppl and added two taxi fare from On Ping to Tung Chung. It was super irresponsible of the cable car company to keep selling return tickets knowing there is no way they could bring people back in a decent time. We talked to the taxi driver on our way back to Tung Chung and he said the previous night, people queued for 4 hours to make their way down.... so probably needed to go home 10 or 11pm? They could have put up signs for people to know status of the cable car up in On Ping at the Tung Chung station. I wouldn’t go if I know it’s so chaotic. Or I wouldn’t buy return tickets if I have to taxi back. Never will I return and definitely would not recommend people to take it, unless the company can be more responsible in managing the crowd.
