I wish I could submit a better review, as I was excited because of all the good reviews I read, but I was very disappointed with my tour guide Mr. Adil and wanted to leave a detailed review for other people considering booking through this company. Positives: -He was friendly -He took great pictures -He saved me time by exchanging USD to QAR currency at a fair price -Vehicle air conditioning was very cold Negatives: -He messaged me the same day as the tour and said he had to be 30 mins late, but somehow was able to show up 15 minutes early after I promised (in advance) to pay him a big tip. -English was only 50% understandable. -Did not have much knowledge about the economic boom Qatar has experienced over the past 15 years, he just kept referencing how FIFA (just 2 years ago) “helped Qatar grow”. -He had little knowledge of the sites we visited, gave incorrect information, and drove by some sites, playing down their importance, instead of parking and getting out (which was included in the itinerary). -Katara Cultural Village: He drove by and called it a “fancy shopping mall”, so I chose not to get out to walk through it. The next day I went to the village by myself and it was everything but “a fancy mall”, it was one of the most beautiful sites I’ve seen in Doha. The village is the largest and the most multidimensional and cultural project of Qatar, with architectural influences from Qatar, Italy, Portugal, France, Dominican Republic, and Greece, to name a few. It has a breathtaking 5,000-person marble outdoor theater overlooking the sea, 2 mosques, concert halls, exhibition galleries, and everything was cutting-edge. It even had an expansive outdoor plaza with endless air conditioning floor vents blowing cold AC out from the ground that could be felt when walking anywhere on the plaza. I’ve never seen anything like it before, it was really cool! (see pictures attached). The “fancy mall” was just a small part of the village. Ironically, the day after my tour with Adil when I went to the village by myself, I saw him drive past the parking lot in his black toyota land cruiser with another guest (and also did not stop). This is a MUST SEE if you take a Doha city tour and the outdoor theater is open 24/7 to the public, taking in the view at night it’s a relaxing way to end an evening. -National Museum of Qatar: He claimed to have completed 100+ tours of the Museum, but was unable to share any meaningful information about any of the exhibits despite me asking several times. After asking 5 times, the most he shared was quite literally, “that is pottery”, “that is a pearl”, “that is a carpet” when I asked more about the carpet, he said “I don’t know a lot about the carpet because ladies know more about that stuff than men”. Upon reading the plaque, I learned that the “carpet” was the Baroda Carpet, valued at USD $5.5M and made to be a cover for the tomb of the Prophet (PBUH) in Medina. It was decorated with more than 1.5 million pieces of natural local marine pearls, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, gold and diamonds, very interesting and beautiful. It was definitely not just “a carpet that only ladies know about” this is an item, I believe very guide should know about, especially one who has completed 100+ tours (see attached pics). -Basic History Knowledge: He also wasn’t able to answer simple questions about Qatar’s history like, what empire or country was Qatar a part of before it became Qatar. This seems like a simple enough question, considering Google told me they declared independence from Great Britain in 1971, were part of Saudi Arabia before than, and were under Ottoman control before that. Bottom Line: If you enjoy more of a “drive and look” kind of tour, I’d say this is fine, but expensive for what you get. If you like tours where you learn about the city, culture, and sites I’d suggest finding another option.

Our guide, Ismail, was very good. He showed us the major sights and told us a lot of the history of Doha. My husband and I continued to quote what he told us throughout our trip. I highly recommend taking this tour early in your trip in order to get a good layout of the city, then you can return to the places that interested you. Ismail was very knowledgeable and kind. He bought us coffee and orange juice at the Souq, took lots of photos of us, and just generally knew the best spots in Doha to show us. We were very pleased with our tour and highly recommend Ismail.
