Katra - Holiday Tour Packages

Katra is a small town in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It might not be as big as Jammu, Srinagar, Pahalgam, and other areas, but it's no less important. In fact, for those who are planning to travel to northern India, they might want to set aside a couple of days to explore the town, experience its sights and activities, and enjoy its bustling but still peaceful atmosphere.

Places to visit in Katra

  • Markets - Katra is considered to be the base camp for people who want to visit the Vaishno Devi shrine. Because of this, the town is full of markets that offer a wide range of products to pilgrims. Those who want to stock up on snacks, for instance, can shop for dried fruits and other kinds of foods, while those who want to fight off the cold can buy jackets and woolen garments. Those who'd like to have keepsakes of their vacation can visit the town's numerous souvenir shops, where they can find locally made silk fabrics, silverware, and cashmere and pashmina shawls. Tourists can even buy carpets, cricket bats, and wooden furniture.
  • Dining Establishments in Katra - Finding good food in Katra isn't a problem since there are many food stalls, eateries, and restaurants, all of which cater to both pilgrims and tourists. Those who'd like to give the local cuisine a try can look for a Kashmiri and Indian restaurant and order rajma masala (red kidney beans with gravy, usually served over rice) and poori bhaji (deep-fried balls of flour with potato curry). Those who are homesick for a Western meal, on the other hand, won't have to worry since they can easily find restaurants that offer Continental cuisine.

Things to do in Katra

  • Go shopping in the local markets. As mentioned above, there are lots of goods you can find in Katra's markets, so start shopping for souvenirs, exotic snacks, and other products.
  • Join the pilgrims and visit the Vaishno Devi. Those who will do this should first get a yatra parchi (or token number) at Banganga, which is located in Katra. All pilgrims are required to obtain a yatra parchi before they can make their journey.

Top attractions in Katra

  • Vaishno Devi Yatra - Vaishno Devi is one of the most popular and most visited temples in India, with more than 10 million people visiting it annually. It's nestled in the Trikuta Mountains and is dedicated to the Hindu deity Mahalakshmi, who is known as the “Mother Goddess”.

Those who want to go to the temple will have to hike around 13 kilometers to reach it and endure a challenging journey (depending on their fitness levels). Alternatively, they can opt to ride a horse or a pony or opt to be carried on a palanquin (advisable for children, older adults, and others who feel they can't complete the climb). Those who'd like a more exciting journey can book a helicopter ride to and from the temple.
