Jungfraujoch, Switzerland: The Highlight of Any Swiss Holiday
The top of Europe, Jungfraujoch, is considered by many people as the highlight of any Swiss holiday. It has the highest railway station in Europe that is located 3,454 meters above sea level, from which you can gain access to a high Alpine wonderland of snow, ice, and rock, which you can admire from the viewing platforms of the Ice Palace or the Aletsch Glacier.

Things to Do and See
A lot of enjoyable things can be expected once you have reached the Jungfraujoch. You will be taken by a lift 117 meters further up to the Sphinx Observatory, where you can enjoy a 360° view of the surroundings, both from the comfort of a building with panoramic windows and from the terrace.
There is the Ice Palace that showcases a lot of ice sculptures that will certainly interest you.

You can go out in the snow and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains and the Grosser Aletsch glacier. If your holiday falls during summer, then you can go skiing, snowboarding, and sledding at the Snow Fun Park.

Also, you can hike across the glacier to the Mönchsjoch hut, but be sure to do this activity in good weather and with proper hiking gear for your own safety.

The Sphinx Observatory
As one of the world’s highest astronomical observatories, the Sphinx Observatory offers an additional viewing platform at a height of 3,571 meters, which can be reached by taking an elevator from the Jungfraujoch.
The observatory houses one of the atmospheric research stations of the Global Atmosphere Watch. It is also where the Jungfraujoch radio relay station (Europe’s highest of its kind), which is not accessible to the public, is installed.
Access
The Jungfraujoch is accessible to visitors through the Jungfrau line, which is a railway from Interlaken and Kleine Scheidegg that runs partly underground through a tunnel passing through the Eiger and Mönch.
The railway station lies east of the saddle, below the Sphinx summit, and is connected to the Top of Europe building, which has several panoramic restaurants.
There are also several tunnels that lead outside to secured hiking trails on the crevassed glacier, particularly to the Mönchsjoch Hut.
Travel Preparation
When going up the Jungfraujoch, check the weather forecast first, as it would not be good to do it if the place is covered in clouds. Make sure you wear multiple thinner layers of clothing so you can easily adjust to the different temperatures you will experience there throughout the day.

Also, allow at least 2 hours visit of the Jungfraujoch, and this does not include the time to get there. Depending on your departure time and pace, you can take either a day trip or a half-day trip.
As you will be going to a high altitude, you might suffer from slight altitude sickness, so take things slow.
